Once a mixed monastery, it became a prison until 1963.
Today, the abbey and its 13 hectares make it one of the largest monastic cities in Europe and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Abbey has also become a privileged cultural place thanks to the Museum of Modern Art.
Opened in 2021, the museum offers a rich collection of 900 works by artists such as Robert Delaunay, Edgar Degas and Germaine Richier.
